New Patients
Your First Visit
On your first visit, you will be greeted with a smile and given some initial paperwork to fill out about yourself, your current condition and your past medical history. If you would like, you can also download the initial paperwork below to fill out before arriving, to shorten the time it takes to put together your file. You will then be seen by the doctor or physical therapist where they review the history of your condition. A detailed history will allow us to better understand your symptoms, how they began, and how they are affecting your activities to accurately diagnose what may be causing them. The doctor or physical therapist will perform extensive orthopedic, neurologic and functional examinations and the doctor may also take x-rays if he deems they are necessary. Treatment will be initiated on the first visit, implementing the most appropriate and effective therapy for your condition and presentation.
Some of the therapies that may be used include:
- Active Release Techniques Soft Tissue Therapy
- McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy
- Physiotherapies, Joint Manipulation
- Kinesio Taping
- Specific stretching or stabilization exercises
Before you leave, the doctor or physical therapist will answer any questions you may have and will provide you with information about your condition and specific instructions to perform at home such as exercises, proper biomechanics, ice/heat therapy, posture correction and ergonomic changes.
On the first visit, you may want to allow between 60-90 minutes due to the extensive nature of the initial evaluation and 30-60 minutes for subsequent visits. Each regular visit will most likely be very different because as your symptoms improve and change, the treatment will change accordingly to continue the quickest progression of your recovery possible.
It is not uncommon to only require between 4-6 visits to fully resolve your condition because our goal is to teach you how to treat yourself which speeds up your recovery tremendously and will reduce your need for future care.
