About Dr. Hapka
Dr. Hapka grew up in Wisconsin competing in ice hockey and golf, earning a hockey scholarship to the U.S. Air Force Academy before finishing his playing career at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, where he earned a degree in Exercise Science. Working as a student athletic trainer, and recovering from his own sports injuries, drew him toward sports medicine.
He earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Parker College in 2008 with one goal: get athletes back to what they love as fast as possible. “Having had plenty of surgeries from sports injuries, I know now how much can be done to prevent these things,” he says. “Many injuries can be treated successfully without invasive procedures or prolonged treatment.” It was that conviction that brought him to Active Spine & Sport Therapy in 2011.
Over the years he’s become fascinated with how people move and where movement breaks down — work that led him to advanced assessment systems like SFMA, FMS, and NeuroKinetic Therapy. “Rather than just treating the pain, I can find what’s causing it and treat that too, so you move and feel better faster.” He lives in Burleson with his wife Kylea and their children, Leighton and Hudson, and spends his free time golfing, training, and out on the lake.
In his words
“Every problem or injury has an answer. It’s whether the right questions get asked that helps you find it quickly. With every patient, I work to find why they hurt and what’s causing it as fast as possible, so you can get back to what you enjoy.”
What patients say
“I have suffered with shoulder pain and some weakness for a number of years. I have had numerous types of treatments with varying success and was ready to schedule surgery. Dr. Hapka approached my problem differently. He started looking, not at my shoulder, but at other areas that may be causing the problem I am having with my shoulder. In the hour that I was with him he discovered issues causing my problems and some exercises that would help alleviate my pain, weakness and help my range of motion. I am very disappointed that I will not be able to see him for a follow-up visit before I leave the area this weekend.”
“I had a great appointment with Dr. Hapka at Active Spine and Sport. He was very thorough in finding out exactly where my pain was coming from and provided me with exercises to do at home. I felt better after the first appointment! I had been dealing with knee pain for at least 6 months. I play pickleball and bicycle, but just getting up and down was painful. I highly recommend Dr. Hapka.”
